Karim Rahman and Chompoo reveal Cannes’ Red Carpet make-up trends from L’Oreal Paris
Bangkok – Fresh from the 67th Cannes Film Festival, leading actress Araya ‘Chompoo’ A Hargate has come home with Karim Rahman, the No. 1 make-up expert of L’Oreal Paris, to recount their collaboration for the exclusive red carpet appearance and introducing two make-up looks from Cannes’Red Carpet moments, at “Inside Cannes Beauty by L’OREAL Paris Makeup” event.
It was Chompoo’s second visit to the renown international Film Festival event as brand ambassador of L’Oreal Paris Make-Up. She said: “I feel honoured to be in this role again and to work with L’Oreal Paris team. Walking down Cannes’ red carpet was a memorable moment for me. It was an exclusive session for L’Oreal Paris Make-Up’s representatives from different parts of the world, to be introduced one by one, and to pose for photographers while presenting the latest looks to women worldwide. It attracted great attention from the media and fashionistas alike, and I can say that I did my best and I’m very happy with the feedback.”
It was also the second time she worked with the beauty giant’s expert make-up artist Karim Rahman, who has been created looks that beautify all the brand’s presenters as well as being the man behind the elegance of many celebrities at the Cannes Film Festival. Having had the opportunity to take part in creating her red carpet looks, Chompoo said: “Working with Mr Rahman was smooth and fun. We met the year before so this time we became more familiar with each other. Before every make-up session, we discussed the possible looks and I could suggest some ideas until we got the look that we all agreed and went perfectly with my dress and hair. You can see that the looks I presented were obviously different but they were both gorgeous.”
Chompoo graced the red carpet on May 21 and 23. The first night she appeared in the chic “Matte Magic Look”, the hottest make-up style from Paris catwalks, created by applying Mat Magique All-In-One foundation powder for matte smooth skin, Color Riche Quads for dramatic smoky eyes, Super Liner Brow Liner for intense lines, matched with Color Riche Moist Matte R518 Flaming Kiss delivering long-wearing bold red lips. Teaming this beauty style with sleek pony-tail updo and fully sequinned black strapless gown from KAUFMANFRANCO, Chompoo drew endless shutter clicks from photographers and was selected by Red Carpet Fashion Awards website one of the six nominees for Best Dressed on Day 8 of Cannes Film Festival 2014, alongside Hollywood stars including Marion Cotillard, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Lara Stone. The website invited people globally to vote and Chompoo won the title with overwhelming score.
For the second night, she came with the “Aura de l’Or Blanc Look” debuted this year at the film festival. The look accentuated glowing skin achieved through the use of five items in the LUCENT MAGIQUE range, which are primer, BB cream, liquid foundation, foundation powder and blusher. Her eyes were softly coloured in GOLD, SILVER, WHITE and CORAL tones while the highly popular Shine Caresse Pearly Sheen watery lip colour in Iris tinted her lips to enhance the lucent, enchanting impact, and the Color Riche Le Vernis gave an elegant finish to her fingernails. She looked dreamy in the voluminous greyish blue bustier gown from Zac Posen Resort 2014 collection that transformed her into a stunning princess. Her breathtaking appearance wowed the press at the event as well as worldwide social media users who shared pictures of her with the “Cinderella on the red carpet” tag line. South Korean media even compared Chompoo’s beauty with the greatly adored angelic actress Kim Tae Hee, naming her ‘Kim Tae Hee of Thailand’.
Taking a break from her official stint, she sported the alluring “Butterfly Look” to go sightseeing in Cannes, defining her eyes in dark blue and silver colours to resemble the city’s night sky with CR Les Ombres (E5) eyeshadow and Super Liner Gelmatic in Dark Blue and Silver Mania while also applying Butterfly Mascara for long-lasting, winged-out effect like a butterfly spreading its wings.
All of Chompoo’s glorious looks were possible because of Karim Rahman, the world’s leading make-up trendsetter who shapes cosmetic concepts and make-up trends each year for L’Oreal Paris and Cannes Film Festival, where L’Oreal has been an official partner. This year, he has visited Thailand to reveal his inspirations for beauty and annual make-up trends for women of the world.
Talking about the Matte and Aura looks he created for Chompoo, he said: “The beautiful, radiant skin is the key, so it’s necessary to be meticulous in making the skin look smooth and supple before taking further steps. As for the Matte Magic Look, the skin must look smooth, matte and natural. Sharp, intense eyebrows will make you look younger, and lipsticks in fresh red or other vibrant colours with moisture-keeping matte texture will help make the skin look brighter and appealing to the touch. Ladies in this look will feel themselves young and chic at the same time.”
To create the eye-catching Aura de l’Or Blanc Look that represents the White Glow Aura Trend, he advised: “The beauty of this look lies in skin preparation techniques to produce a lucent aura from within and the coral colour tones with a bit of shimmer to attract all eyes with the brilliant charm.” Mr Rahman created this look for Chompoo using the LUCENT MAGIQUE skin cosmetic line and an item from Shine Caresse Pearly Sheen lip colour collection. Colours were lightly put on, focusing on golden, silver and coral shades with skilful blending to ultimately achieve a natural but radiant facial look like that of a princess in the fairy tales.
The event’s highlight was when Mr Rahman performed a make-up demonstration for the benefit of Thai women who were fascinated by Chompoo’s looks. All products he applied were part of a special cosmetic collection that L’Oreal Paris Make-up created for this year’s edition of the Cannes Film Festival. They included Mat Magique All-In-One foundation powder, all five products from the LUCENT MAGIQUE range, SHINE CARESSE PEARLY SHEEN liquid lip colour and Butterfly Mascara.
