“ASEAN CSA & OWASP Summit 2014” Hosted by EGA to Welcome the Congregation of Top CEOs from Across ASEAN in June 2014
Electronic Government Agency (Public Organization) or EGA pushes forward the regional project “Cloud Security Alliance (CSA)” by hosting the “ASEAN CSA & OWASP Summit 2014” which focuses on the security for Cloud technology. Over 600 CEOs from across the region are expected to join this Summit from 3 – 4 June 2014 at Centara Grand Hyatt @ Central Plaza Ladprao.
Dr. Surachai Srisarakham Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, gave the honor of opening the Press Conference and discussed the importance of moving Thailandusing information technology which is rapidly developing and changing. As a result, the information technology and communication have become an integral part in the lives of people in the society, in which many countries, including the government has used information technology as a key driver of the country. Therefore, all types of organizations have adopted information technology as an important tool in a strategic way, that are both operational efficient and effective. Government agencies are required to modify and work in terms of using information technology more towards Cloud system. For this reason, since mid 2556 ICT ministry has urged the Electronic Government Agency (Public Organization) (EGA) to conducted a study to place proper infrastructure and training for government officials . Both management and related staff, especially including the Ecosystem or circumstances conducive to working in the cloud sector. While the cloud, both public and private sectors, is growing significantly, strong development of the system and creating a security expert with deep knowledge of Cloud integration is an vital fundamental and essential.
Furthermore, Dr. Sak Segkhoonthod, Director of Electronic Government Agency (Public Organization) (EGA) and President of CSA Thailand Chapter, revealed “Thailand is ready and has potential. With the past success in 2013 edition, we are again selected to host the 2nd edition of this international conference under the name ‘ASEAN CSA & OWASR Summit 2014’ which will focus on Cloud Security issues and the Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) by the gurus of IT industry.”
The rapid growth rate of Cloud technology adoption by both government and private sectors in Thailand in 2013 saw the overall market value of 2.3 billion baht. The services provided facilitated the technology implementation for both local and international users so the investment volumes continued to increase. This benefited the growth of Thai economy while put the country in line with AEC 2015 Plan and ICT Master Plan which aims to make Thailand a commercial hub due to the superior basic infrastructures. Thus, it will further sharpen national competitive edges.”
In 2014, the adoption of Cloud technology would see the growth rate of 25% with market value of 500 million baht. Compared to last year, the key sectors adopting Cloud technology include government (Private Cloud), telecommunications (Cloud Service Provider), healthcare (Private Cloud, Virtual Desktop, Big Data), retailers (Private Cloud) and so on. For government agencies, EGA has prepared a roadmap to serve the increasing demands, data security and accesses via Government Information Network (GIN).
Moreover, to push forward and accelerate the results from 2013 projects, EGA and CSA will join forces to implement ‘STAR Certification for CSP (Cloud Service Provider)’ to upgrade the levels of provided services to be more effective and secured as per international standards. The certification of Cloud Service Provider or ‘CSA STAR Certification’ aims to promote the market confidence for both Cloud and ICT technologies by presenting the transparency and confidence for any organization. Also, it can evaluate the security of Cloud services by providers to ensure users that their services of choice have security recognized by international standards. Therefore, organizations with STAR Certification will be listed in the CSA’s STAR registration records.
EGA will team up with BSI Group (Thailand) Co., Ltd. to offer training courses on Cloud Security available in 3 levels from basic to evaluation of STAR Certification. These courses are compliant with CSA’s CCM (Cloud Control Matrix) to promote overall understandings in terms of daily life and businesses or organizations, CCM 1.4 implementation, listing of Cloud Top 10, knowledge and experience sharing between CSA in each country to optimize the benefits for all members.
Mr. Chaicharearn Atibaedya, Chairman for CIO 16 Association and Chairman for organizing ASEAN CSA & OWASP Summit 2014, remarked “Aiming to promote understanding on Cloud Security issues for related parties in Thailand and ASEAN, the ASEAN CSA & OWASP Summit 2014 will feature know-how on researches, standards and their specifications and implementation policies while supporting and creating network for standardized Cloud Operators in Thailand and ASEAN. Additionally, the Summit will confirm the status of regional hub for Thailand.”
The highlights in ASEAN CSA & OWASP Summit 2014 will enable delegates to interact and exchange ideas with local and international IT gurus who will actively share their knowledge and experiences.
