LG GD510 POP bursts into the Thai market New touchscreen phone from LG brings benefits to both customers and the environment; ‘Ruj’ appointed as presenter to engage with younger generation
LG Electronics (LG), a global leader and technology innovator in mobile communications, has today announced the launch of its new compact full touchscreen phone, the LG GD510 POP. With a uniquely green twist, the new mobile reflects the company’s environmentally-friendly initiatives, with Ruj Suparuj revealed by LG as the official presenter of LG GD510 POP, in order to enhance greater awareness and brand preference among the phone’s primary audience of young customers.
During a press conference held today at Bangkok’s Siam Discovery, Mr. Alongkorn Chujit, Deputy Managing Director, LG Electronics (Thailand) Co. Ltd. said, “The LG GD510 POP is the first mobile phone in Thailand to be developed with eco-friendly sustainability in mind. The handset is manufactured entirely from hazardous-free and recyclable components, with minimal packaging and soy ink, as well as a built in charging alarm to avoid unnecessary charging and extended battery life. A solar powered battery charger case will also soon be available as an add-on accessory. On top of this, the LG GD510 POP comes with the high-quality features that users have come to expect from LG. We are confident that this will translate into greater preference towards the LG as a brand that is committed to creating a healthier environment for Thai people.”
Indeed, besides its green attributes, the LG GD510 POP is efficient in other ways, too. It has a slim outer design that covers all essential features without compromising usability or quality. Featuring a spacious 3-inch touchscreen display surrounded by a smooth metal body, the LG GD510 POP also offers a full range of multimedia features such as a 3MP camera suitable for taking photos to share online, as well as an MP3 player and web browser. Moreover, the handset offers an easy-to-use interface, including a Widget Idle home screen that allows users quick and convenient access to popular social networking sites, such as Facebook, My Space, and Twitter. LG's LiveSquare TM feature is also easily accessible, allowing users to set custom animated characters to the contacts they interact with most and have them pop up on the home screen.
LG aims to position the LG GD510 POP as the mobile of choice for the young generation who are open to green initiatives. As such, the company has appointed prominent singer ‘Ruj Suparuj’ to represent the LG GD510 POP. LG believes that the personality and lifestyle of the presenter is well suited to the phone’s target audience and will help promote localized brand awareness and engagement.
What’s more, for every LG GD510 POP handset sold, LG will plant one tree. LG will also launch an interactive online activity known as ‘One Email One Tree’ to reflect the eco-friendly characteristics of the product. Users will be able to log in and click to plant virtual trees online, with LG then collecting all participating entries and planting these as real trees under a CSR project – making the LG GD510 POP environmentally-conscious in terms of both its features and marketing activities.
Speaking more on what the LG GD510 POP means for Thai customers, Somsak Athisaitrakul, Product Group Head (Mobile Communications) Senior Manager, LG Electronics (Thailand) Co., Ltd. added, “Our consumer research has shown that many consumers prefer the functionality of a full touchscreen phone without the extra bulk and unnecessary features that often result in higher prices. According to the findings, many users were also put off by the complexity of feature-laden phones but still desired the easier navigation and larger screens of full touchscreen phones. The LG GD510 POP has been designed with this research in mind and includes the key elements that users crave, without the clutter of unnecessary features that they don’t use.”

LG’s green commitment to efficiency is demonstrated by the LG GD510 POP with the following features:
- Strictly adheres to the European Union’s RoHS requirements, ensuring that it does not contain any polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and is made free of BFR (brominated flame retardants) and CFR (chlorinated flame retardants) almost up to 99.9 percent.
- All packaging is made from recycled paper with environmentally-friendly soy ink printing.
- A highly efficient battery charger cuts power consumption and subsequently reduces carbon emissions. When the phone is fully charged, it beeps and displays a message on screen, reminding users to unplug the charger and save energy.
- A solar-battery cover for the phone will allow users to charge the phone using nothing more than the power of the sun. Ten minutes of sunlight will provide up to 2 minutes 15 seconds of talk time or up to 180 minutes of standby time.
