The “Amarin Outdoor Unlimited” Dash Series 2010
Racing for a greener Thailand
Outdoor Adventure fun on Sundays
The Great Outdoors and adventure activities are becoming increasingly popular in Thailand. Adventure Racing is probably the fastest growing and newest sport in the country.
After the tremendous success of the Dash Series 2008-2009, Active Management Asia, leader in the organization of Adventure Races in Thailand, is launching the new series of 6 competitions that will take place from January to June 2010.
The races will take place on Sunday mornings in locations not over 100 kilometres (maximum 1h15’ driving) of Bangkok and easy accessible. The locations are carefully chosen for their beautiful scenery and challenging terrain.
Each Dash consists of:
1. An Adventure Dash duathlon (Mountain bike + Run)
2. An Off Road Fun run for all 4km
3. An Off Road Fun run for children 4km
What is the Adventure Dash Duathlon?
It is a mini Adventure Race that racers will complete individually. Mostly off road, there will be 2 categories; Running and Mountain biking. Some extra adventure challenges can be integrated such as a rope course, a cargo net etc….
“These sprint races will be an opportunity for athletes who never competed in an Adventure Race to have a taste of adventure” says Serge Henkens the organizer. “It will also help everyone to prepare for longer competitions. It will definitely help in the development of this fantastic new sport in the kingdom”
As the distances are much shorter, this kind of races is accessible to everyone”
“We estimate that the front runners will complete the course in 75-90 minutes. The slower participants should arrive at the finish line in maximum 3 hours” says Henkens.
What is the Fun Run for all?
As AMA strives to promote the sports for youngsters in Thailand and in order to make it a festive event and involve the local residents we have decided to offer a fun run for all in parallel to the Adventure Dash Race.
The fun run course will be mostly Off Road. Running is becoming very popular amongst Thais but all runs organized are on paved roads. We would like to give the opportunity to the Thai runners to experience the pleasure of running on softer terrain. Paved road runners are experiencing knees, calves, tendons problems due to the constant impact while running. Not so while running on dirt tracks.
On top of that, it is such a pleasure to run in the wild, surrounded by birds and greenery, far away from cities and urban areas. If you are a runner and nature and great outdoors lover, you will enjoy it!
Local schools will be invited and children from 6 to 17 are welcome to participate. Younger kids are allowed to compete with a parent or tutor. The entry fee is free for this category. (For children 6-17 and tutor/parent if any)
“We wanted to involve local communities and people who are not keen to compete in a more strenuous adventure race”, says Henkens. “This running initiative will give the opportunity for all to participate in this unique sport’s day event! Local Schools are invited and will be also involved in the Race organization.
This run will raise participant’s numbers and create a festive, sporty and friendly atmosphere throughout the morning.
The First Dash will take place on Sunday January 10 in Nong Nam Kiaew, Ban Bung near Chonburi.
Easy accessible, it takes only a bit more than an hour driving to reach the venue from Bangkok and 45’ from Pattaya.
