The number of train passengers is projected to rise from 27,200-38,800 persons/day to 37,00-55,000 persons/day and the conveyance of freight on this route will increase from the current 10,900-11,300 tons/day to 36,400 tons/day by the year 2044.
This will help to improve passenger travel and freight transport as well as the country’s logistical advantage through rail transportation to the Northeast much more efficiently. At the same time a plan is also in place to expand Khon Kaen Airport to be completed in 2018 with a new passenger terminal, apron and car park building to elevate the airport to international status.
In addition, the new LRT line now under construction will help to alleviate traffic congestion problem and facilitate more convenient commute. Khon Kaen city will be Thailand’s first metropolis outside of Bangkok to have a proper rail-based mass transit system that will be completed and ready for service in 2020. The first line will run North-South for 22.6 kilometres connecting Baan Samran and Baan Thaphra with a total of 16 stations. The Pratumuang (Central Plaza) Station will be right next to “THE BASE Height Mittraphap-Khonkaen” condominium, thus providing the utmost transportation convenience for the residents.
