Flagship model with innovative touch display, BMW gesture control and BMW Touch Command featuring 7-inch tablet computer
The all-new BMW 740Li's iDrive operating system is controlled by a touch display, allowing users to operate the system in the same way as modern electronic devices. In addition to using the Controller to operate the system in familiar style, its functions can also be selected and activated by touching the screen's surface. The iDrive system's functionality is further enhanced by new BMW gesture control. Hand movements detected by a 3D sensor control infotainment functions in an extremely intuitive and user-friendly fashion. Gestures can be used for a number of functions, including controlling the volume in audio applications and accepting or rejecting incoming telephone calls.
In addition, an innovative new multifunctional control unit is being offered for the all-new BMW 740Li in the form of BMW Touch Command. This removable tablet with a screen diagonal of 7 inches can be used from any seat and even outside the vehicle. It allows passengers to control comfort functions such as seat adjustment, interior lighting and air conditioning, as well as
infotainment, navigation and communication systems.
The exclusive ambience inside the all-new BMW 740Li is further enhanced by a precisely arranged lighting design. Thanks to BMW Selective Beam, this dazzle-free headlight option can be specified for the all-new BMW 740Li as an optional package to the standard full-LED headlights. The laser headlights generate a particularly bright, pure white light as well as providing a high-beam range of 600 meters, double that of LED headlights.
The all-new BMW 740Li comes with all the right ingredients for precise, assured and harmonious handling characteristics. The suspension is supplied with air by an electrically powered compressor with pressure reservoir. This means that even when the engine is switched off, the height of the vehicle body is maintained regardless of the load being carried. And because the air supply is controlled individually for each wheel, it is even possible to compensate for an unevenly distributed load.
The all-new BMW 740Li is available with an extensively updated six-cylinder in-line variant of the BMW Group's latest generation of power units. With the 3.0 litre BMW TwinPower Turbo, output is 240 kW/326 hp at 5,500–6,500 rpm. Acceleration from 0–100 km/h can be achieved in 5.6 seconds. Average fuel consumption is 14.3 km/l with CO2 emissions at 166 g/km.

It returns a combined fuel consumption of 31.3 km/l and CO2 emissions at 76 g/km.
The plug-in hybrid design of the BMW X5 xDrive40e provides the ideal basis for extensive use of the electric drive system for highly efficient mobility, even including urban driving with zero tailpipe emissions. Its high-voltage battery offers a gross energy capacity of 9.0 kilowatt hours (kWh) and can be topped up with energy from any domestic power socket. The standard charging cable can be kept in a compartment underneath the luggage compartment floor.
