Nadda Buranasiri, CEO of Thai AirAsia X stated that as Thai AirAsia X (flight code XJ) enters its second year, it will continue to grow with a focus on penetrating the Chinese market. The airline will do so with its new route to Shanghai, China and new advertising concept "Experience Exotic China in a Modern Way" distilled into the slogan "Shanghai… Hip and Artistic, Retro and Modern; Everything in One Place". He assured the city is a great place to visit for people of all ages and should provide a new travel option alongside the carrier's Japan and South Korea routes.
In 2014, up to 613,100 Thai travelers visited China. Up to 309,000 traveled to China during the first half of this year alone, an increase of 3.7% from the same period last year. At the same time, it is projected that 7 million Chinese travelers will come to Thailand this year, exceeding a previous target of 6 million after over 4 million made their way to the Kingdom in the first half of the year. Many in the figure were from the city of Shanghai and its surrounding provinces, which together form one of China's most important economic hubs, boasting not only the country's most affluent citizens but also more than half of all Chinese visitors to Thailand.
"China is a very populous market and has great growth potential in terms of tourism, economics and investment. The AirAsia Group has maintained a strong and extensive flight network in China and the brand has become popular and well-trusted. Thai AirAsia X is proud to be entering the Chinese market in a major way and we have received great support from all relevant agencies. This is a great opportunity for growth" Mr. Nadda added.
Through cooperation between Thai AirAsia X and Thai AirAsia in providing Fly-Thru service for Thai travelers in the country's different regions; including Chiang Mai, Hat Yai, Krabi, Phuket and Surat Thani, the long-haul carrier can now facilitate easy travel to Shanghai with connections via Don Mueang Airport.
