“NBTC” Organizes the “ASEAN Symposium on Shaping the Digital Community, Leveraging the Internet Economy” with aim to Empower the ASEAN Region in the Digital World
The Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC Office) is holding the ASEAN Symposium on Shaping the Digital Community, Leveraging the Internet Economy" as a forum for the Head of ASEAN regulators to forge collaboration and bolster intra-ASEAN strengths in the digital world.
ACM Thares Punsri NBTC chairman - says the NBTC Office has regulated Thailand's broadcasting and telecommunications services and prepared them for the achievement of ASEAN Community 2015 under the Act on Organization to Assign Radio Frequency and to Regulate the Broadcasting and Telecommunications Services BE 2553 (2010).
According to ACM Thares, the NBTC Office has made the preparations to promote Thailand's broadcasting and telecommunications services transition well into the ASEAN Community, which is materializing in 2015, and to promote international collaboration network in line with Thailand's telecommunications master plan BE 2555 – 2559 (2012 – 2016).
In pursuit of the goals and in accordance with plans laid down, the NBTC Office has already conducted various activities in creating public awareness of the ASEAN Community, network collaboration among ASEAN regulators, as well as forums for representatives from each ASEAN countries to get together and discuss related issues.
The NBTC Office, moreover, has sought to strengthen ties with other ASEAN regulators in a bid to boost Thailand's potential and capabilities further. In addition, the NBTC has striven to develop cooperation framework for ASEAN regulators for the purposes of bolstering the intra-ASEAN strengths and responding to the Thai government's Digital Economy policy too.
As the Thai regulator of telecommunications services, the NBTC Office has recognized the need to make necessary preparations for the establishment of the ASEAN Community. It, therefore, has decided to organize the "ASEAN Symposium on Shaping the Digital Community, Leveraging the Internet Economy" on 7 August 2015 at the Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel. This academic conference is also held to mark the National Communications Day the 4th of 4 August. The event brings together ASEAN telecommunication regulators, representatives from the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), GSMA and the Internet Society, as well as applications providers.
As parts of the forum, experts from Ericsson, Intel, Google, Microsoft, GSMA and the Internet Society engage in discussions and exchange of information. Together, they also address trends and directions of the technologies and related services in the Digital Age emphasizing that spectrum management and high speed broad band Internet is going to be an important part. The NBTC Office has invited representatives of government agencies, private organizations, educational institutes and all relevant parties across all sectors in the 10 ASEAN countries to join the symposium.
ACM Thares concludes that the event is expected to attract more than 200 participants who wish to find out more about trends, policies, and work carried out by relevant organizations in their field during the Digital Age. It could be a good forum for moving ASEAN forward and shaping the digital economy together.
