AIS, dtac and TrueMove JOIN FORCES TO PROTECT CUSTOMERS FROM SPAM SMS.
The management from the 3 Mobile Phone Operators consisting of Mr. Somchai Lertsuttiwong, Executive Vice President - Marketing of AIS, Mr. Thana Thienachariya, dtac’s Chief Commercial Officer and Mr. Suphakit Vuntanadit, Chief Commercial Officer of TrueMove, co-announce Thailand’s first cooperation in protecting customers from Spam SMS with an investment of over 30 million Baht, capable of filtering up to 90% of Spam SMS.
The three mobile operators said that the main principle of SMS was to benefit users in receiving quick information. Following the widespread usage, some parties have misused the SMS system creating nuisance and irritations to subscribers. Moreover, sending bulk SMS through the network of each operator routed unnecessary and unwanted messages to customers of all operators. Currently, customers can inform their operators to block spam SMS or commercial SMS if they are sent from within the same network. However, messages sent from different networks could not be blocked.
Since last year, the three operators have coordinated towards a common goal to establish SMS monitoring measures and develop a control system with a co-investment amounting to over 30 million Baht in developing anti-spam SMS software. As a result, the system is capable of blocking inter-network spam SMS, and can filter up to 90% of messages under this category.
AIS, dtac, and TrueMove customers can contact their respective Call Center (AIS Call Center 1175, dtac Call Center 1678 and TrueMove Care 1331) to report and request blockage of spam SMS. Consequently, the spam SMS sent from any of the three networks will be automatically blocked simultaneously. The SMS blocking system of each operator will be complete and in operation within August 2009.
The collaboration of the three operators results from the mutual commitment to protecting customers’ rights. AIS, dtac and TrueMove hope to receive further cooperation from other mobile operators to fully protect customers from spam SMS so that the SMS service will be a communication channel that truly benefits subscribers.
