Top Tables 2011 reveals Bangkok’s 121 Greatest Restaurants
(Bangkok, March 24, 2011) Restaurants and food lovers in Bangkok will be eagerly awaiting the second edition of Top Tables, distributed tomorrow, March 25, in 200 venues around Bangkok. Compiled from independent, honest reviews and with a unique focus on stellar food, rather than just fine-dining service and atmosphere, this is the definitive guide to Bangkok’s best 121 restaurants.
Completely revised and updated, Top Tables 2011 reveals changing culinary trends in the capital as well as the addition of some particularly notable and eclectic new venues.
Nahm, the highly controversial Thai restaurant by David Thompson, makes its debut as an editor’s pick along with the less controversial, yet utterly revolutionary, Sra Bua. But there are also offbeat newcomers that are a far cry from the Metropolitan and Kempinski’s high-end Thai fare, such as Iron Fairies, a Dickensian workshop with the best burger in Bangkok.
“A lot of guides are obsessed with long wine lists, starched napkins and waiters hovering over you. To us, the food really comes first,” says managing editor Gregoire Glachant. “That’s why we’ve included places like La Monita, where sitting on a bench is the price of admission to eating the best Mexican food in town.”
But new additions like 4 Garcons and Soul Food Mahanakorn are also proof that there’s plenty of exciting new venues with great food, snappy service and great design—at a fraction of what five-star hotels charge.
“It quite clear that this year was marked by the explosion of very strong standalone restaurants, particularly in Thong Lor, which is really exciting for the future of dining in Bangkok,” says Glachant.
Top Tables is based on completely independent reviews carried out by a team of anonymous reviewers: they don’t call ahead, they pay for their food and they don’t sit down with the chef. Each restaurant listing in the guide contains descriptions of the decor, highlight dishes and full contact details. The new 32-page guide is distributed in this week’s issue of BK Magazine.
