Lifestyle products industry launches “Inspired Lifestyle Products” project
The Thai lifestyle products industry and the Department of Export Promotion (DEP) of the Thai Ministry of Commerce have jointly launched a marketing and brand-building skills project to develop this new and growing industry’s international competitiveness.
The “Inspired Lifestyle Products” will help the industry’s primarily small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) vie successfully in very competitive global markets.
The project’s key initiatives will include specific programs to develop marketing and creative thinking skills that will further brand Thai lifestyle products globally. An integral part of the program includes matching outstanding Thai lifestyle products manufacturers with internationally renowned retailers, such as Macy’s, Harrods, Debenham, Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, Tesco and Marks and Spencer.
Porntiva Nakasai, Minister of Commerce said that Thai lifestyle products are a high potential export category and supporting this new and exciting sector’s growth and sustainability is important for Thailand’s economy.
“The project is also a key component of the Thai government’s
fiscal stimulus package (Thai Khem-Kaeng 2555) that will strengthen the Thai economy by enhancing the capabilities of SMEs,” she said.
The Minister said that lifestyle products exports are an important and growing component of the Thai economy and will be great assisted by the “Inspired Lifestyle Products” project. “In 2010, lifestyle product industry exports were about Bt90 billion baht,” she said.
The project’s greatest value, she said will be helping Thai lifestyle products manufacturers develop new competitive strategies that will help them compete successfully in global markets that have become much more aggressive during the current global economic crisis.
Nuntawan Sakuntanaga, DEP’s Director General said that the project will also enhance the ability of a new breed of Thai SME entrepreneurs in the lifestyle products’ industry to compete internationally.
“Inspired Lifestyle Products” project will run eight months from January to September 2011,” she said.
She said that marketing, analytical and most importantly strategic skills will be enhanced through specialized workshops and training programs. “Our industry participants will be armed with the tools to win in the international arena,” she said.
Additional promotional activities will also be organized to help brand Thai companies so they can tap into world markets at any level. “Many leading department stores of the world are discovering new lifestyle products from Thailand because these beautiful Thai handicraft products are expertly crafted and have excellent quality.”
The project also encourages participation by anyone interested in entering this fast-growing but vital industry.
