Cathay Pacific appoints Maggie Yeung as country manager Thailand
Bangkok — 1 September 2009 — Cathay Pacific Airways has appointed Ms Maggie Yeung as its Country Manager for Thailand. She will oversee all aspects of the business and operations for Cathay Pacific Airways and its sister airline Dragonair in Thailand.
In order to continue raising the standard of its service, as the Airline of the Year 2009, the airline will continue its progressive marketing strategy of providing premium products, services and promotional travel packages to meet its customers’ requirements in response to the increasing demand for air travel in the second half of this year.
“Being Country Manager Thailand is a challenging position as things are so uncertain for global and regional economies,” said Yeung. “Fortunately, we are witnessing the beginning of a recovery of the global and Thai economies. It is generally agreed that the recession has bottomed out, and we’re passing that point now. But we can’t be sure what is coming in the near future, and we hope that the economy will improve in the second half of the year.
For Cathay Pacific, Thailand is still a major gateway to Asia for trade and tourism, and has been chosen by the airline as its largest hub for Southeast Asia. Thailand’s connections with Hong Kong and China have resulted in consistently numbers of passengers and cargo shipments, and these are expected to increase further in the future.
“This is one of greatest business opportunities that Cathay Pacific and Dragonair will benefit from, and with the economic recovery there will be more room to grow,” said Yeung.
However, Cathay Pacific and Dragonair will continue to put their emphasis on providing premium products and services, and offer special airfares and promotional packages to meet wider range of customers’ demands.
Prior to taking up the post of Country Manager Thailand, Ms Yeung was General Manager Inflight Services as well as General Manager International Affairs for Hong Kong Dragon Airlines.
A graduate of the University of Hong Kong, she holds a Bachelor Degree in Social Sciences, majoring in Economics and Management Studies. She joined Dragonair in 1989 as a Management Assistant and since then has held a wide variety of positions in several departments of the airline, including Marketing and Sales, Planning & International Affairs and Revenue Management. She also had extensive experience as a Port Manager in Taiwan, Malaysia, and Europe.
